John Flynn gave a presentation about the National Interscholastic Cycling Association high school mountain bike league (Texas = http://www.texasmtb.org/, National = http://www.nationalmtb.org/ ). He is fielding a team at Consol. The league is open to 9-12th graders. Texas will have a spring race season only. Training starts after Christmas break. **John needs adult riders to help with training rides** and proposes that training rides will be Tue/Thurs. There are 4 races – 11Mar12 @ Reveille Peak, 25 Mar12 @ Dallas, 14Apr12 @ Cameron Park and 29Apr12, state championship, @ TBD. The events are 2 day and very professional. One of the cool things about this league is that everyone on a team races. The points go deep so the riders can earn points without a podium finish. There is a leader jersey system. If a rider earns a leader jersey – they get to keep it even if another rider overtakes them in the points. Divisions are by grade year and male/female. Teams are *highly* encouraged to be co-ed. High school aged riders of all levels are needed. This is a 501(3c) organization so monetary donations are tax-deductible. John is working up a proposal for BVMBA to be a sponsor. I say it’s a no brainer!! Also proposed was as field day or a $1/time trial with more discussion to come on those.
